5 Reasons Why LinkedIn Should Be On Your "Must Do" List for 2023

2023 is here and with that comes new goals, new visions and usually a list of “must do” things in the new year for your life and business.

In life, that list can commonly look like:

  • Exercise
  • Eat healthier
  • Spend less time on social media
  • Save more money
  • Organize your home
  • Take the trip you’ve been dreaming of

For business, a few commons ones are:

  • Build or redo your website
  • Increase your prices
  • Gain X amount of clients/customers
  • Refine your work/life balance
  • Revisit and determine your ideal client
  • Create new branding
  • Launch a course
  • Hire a new team member

And while all of those things are great and should absolutely be on your list for the new year if they align with who you ultimately want to be and what you want to achieve, for business specifically I believe there’s something else that should be on your list for 2023.

Something that isn’t super common and something that is quite honestly often overlooked…

If you’re new to me, you might not know what I’m about to say, but if you’ve been around for a while, you’ve probably guessed it by now:

GET. ON. LINKEDIN.

I know, I know - “really, Lindsay?! LinkedIn? The platform I haven’t touched since landing my first job out of college? Yeah, no thanks!”

Listen, I totally get it. Telling you to get on LinkedIn in 2023 is probably not the trendy thing you wanted to hear, but I believe it’s time we stop chasing the things everyone else is doing and instead do the thing that creates the most opportunities for you.

LinkedIn is no longer the platform that you think it is. It’s starting to be right up there with TikTok and Instagram, but the main difference is that you can see REAL traction and create REAL connections without fighting crazy algorithms or having to gain massive amounts of followers.

If you’re still unsure, take 2 minutes to hear me out!

5 Reasons Why LinkedIn Should Be On Your “Must Do” List

  1. It’s one of two major platforms that allows for 100% organic reach.

This is one of the main things that I don’t think people have fully caught onto yet!

LinkedIn and TikTok are the only two major platforms that allow for 100% organic reach, meaning you can truly have ZERO followers or connections and your content can still be seen WITHOUT having to pay for ads.

Many times as a business owner, you don’t have the extra funds to throw out for ads, and even if you do, ads are a long game that aren’t guaranteed to produce results.

And while TikTok is fun and cool right now, it’s hard to say if it will be around forever.

So, one way to capitalize on organic reach AND trust that your content is here to stay is to make LinkedIn a primary part of your marketing efforts!

  1. LinkedIn is the world’s largest business search engine.

Did you know that LinkedIn is a search engine disguised as a social media platform?!

This is one of the biggest reasons that being on LinkedIn can be such a game changer for you or your business because everything on your profile is 100% searchable.

With over 875 million users from 200 countries and regions worldwide, about 16% use the platform daily.

This means that almost 135 MILLION people are actively searching on LinkedIn every single day and depending on what they’re looking for, they could very well find YOU!

This is why having an optimized profile with proper keywords is key so that when people search terms that relate to your industry, you populate in the results and have a greater chance of connecting with them and building a relationship.

  1. People are there to learn and connect, not just to scroll and be entertained.

Unlike Instagram or TikTok, people aren’t typically on LinkedIn to scroll. Instead they are there to find business solutions and connect with people who they can learn from.

While there’s of course always an entertainment factor that can set your content apart from the rest, people ultimately want to be inspired, motivated or learn something from your content.

So, when you create content in a way that does one or all of the above, people will grow to know, like and trust you which can ultimately lead to a business relationship in the future.

  1. 44% of LinkedIn users take home more than $75,000/year.

LinkedIn is home to the highest paid web audience that you have access to… for FREE!

The reason this matters is because let’s just be honest: as a business owner you want to surround yourself with people that have the ability to easily buy.

It’s not to say that someone who makes less than that can’t or won’t become a customer one day, but the overall point is that people with higher salaries are typically going to be the ones that gladly outsource or invest FIRST!

  1. LinkedIn is 277% more effective at generating leads than Facebook and Twitter.

In 2020, HubSpot released a study that found this wild statistic to be true. Out of 5,000 businesses, the traffic from LinkedIn generated the highest visitor-to-lead conversion rate that was almost 3 times higher than both Facebook and Twitter.

The main reason for this is because LinkedIn has been designed as a business platform. That’s what people use it for!

Like mentioned in #3, other platforms have millions of users and it can be hard to tell which ones are there just for fun and entertainment and which ones are there to truly connect, learn and eventually convert into a client or customer.

Of course not every single person you connect with on LinkedIn will become a buyer, but the chance is much higher and personally, as a business owner myself, that’s a risk I’m happy to take!

So, if you’re ready to:

✔️ stop fighting algorithms that change daily

✔️ stop worrying about your follower count

✔️ be surrounded by people who are business minded and excited to learn from you
