What TikTok Being Banned Could Mean For LinkedIn

Did you know that out of the many social media platforms out there, there are only TWO main platforms where you can receive a huge amount of organic reach?

Yes, only two. Can you guess what they are?

TikTok and LinkedIn.

When I say organic reach in this sense, I’m talking about the fact that you can sign up for the platform for free, post content and a large number of people will see your post WITHOUT you having to spend money on ads OR have a mass follower count.

If you post a video on TikTok and you have zero followers, you can still receive views and engagement because the algorithm pushes your content to people interested in the topic at hand.

The same is true for LinkedIn - when you post an article or any type of message on the platform, it truly does not matter how many connections or followers you have, if the content is relatable and important to people, you can receive engagement, build your connections and start conversations.

The main difference between the two is that TikTok is more B2C and LinkedIn is a bit more B2B, but don’t get it twisted - LinkedIn can work for B2C, too! You can read more about that HERE.

Gary Vee talks about these two platforms all the time (in fact, he posted this THREE years ago 🤯 and more recently talked about it here) and he essentially explains that these two platforms are like the golden era of Facebook, which was around 2010.

If you were in business in 2010, you likely remember that Facebook was wayyyyy different than it is now.

Businesses weren’t forced to “pay to play” meaning they didn’t have to pay for ads in order to reach their ideal audience.

Instead, they could use the platform to post on their business page and they could receive a ton of organic reach.

People who did not follow them or even know them could see the content, engage with the content and eventually buy the product or service.

And if you’re a business owner or do any sort of marketing, you know how critical it is to protect that budget!

Well, it’s no secret that those days on Facebook are long gone and, as a business owner, you’re either part of the group that took advantage of that time and are still reaping the benefits OR you regret not taking action.

If you’re among the group of people who regret not taking action back then, you have another chance sitting in front of you RIGHT NOW!

You can do it on TikTok OR you can do it on LinkedIn, but here’s the scary thing we’re now being faced with…

Is TikTok seeing its last days?

If you’ve tuned into the news lately or been on social media, you might’ve heard the rumors that TikTok could be getting banned.

Honestly, we’ve heard talk of this since 2020 due to privacy concerns, but recently there’s been some real follow through at the state and federal level.

Several states have officially banned TikTok on state and federal issued devices, which leaves people wondering if the app will be banned altogether.

Who really knows if it will happen, but IF it does here’s what that means for LinkedIn ⬇️

It would be the only platform out there where:

✅ your content isn’t fully controlled by an algorithm

✅ you don’t have to worry about your follower count AND

✅ you don’t have to throw in tons of your marketing budget to receive traction

I love TikTok as much as the next person and I think it’s a great platform that allows for relatable and easy video creation, but here’s what I also know…

LinkedIn has been around since 2002 which gives us a pretty good idea that the platform isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

And since the original launch of the platform, LinkedIn has implemented updates that have only positively benefited the user over and over and over again.

I don’t know about you, but I’m way more interested in putting my marketing efforts on a platform that has proved it can stand the test of time instead of worrying if my content will go away tomorrow.

But why do people choose TikTok over LinkedIn?

Mainly because TikTok feels fun and creative, but what if I told you that LinkedIn CAN be:

✅ that fun and creative platform that you love (yes, it’s possible!)

✅ where you reap similar (if not better) benefits than that of TikTok AND

✅ the place where you receive organic reach while building a loyal following and real connections simultaneously

Those 3️⃣ things are 100% possible and the first step in achieving that is accepting the fact that LinkedIn is no longer the platform that holds your digital resume.

Instead, it’s the place where you can establish your personal brand, attract people to your business and really be seen as a thought leader in your industry.

If you’re a job seeker, you belong there.

If you’re a marketer, you belong there.

If you’re an employee, you belong there.

If you’re a business owner or CEO, you belong there.

When you accept that, the next step is learning HOW to navigate the platform correctly and because that’s what I’m all about, I’ve created a FREE LinkedIn Playbook that will guide you along the way.

When you download the playbook, you’ll learn:
