The 10 Minute Daily Habit That Could Skyrocket Your Business Growth

We’re still in the early parts of 2023, so new habits, new routines and new goals are probably still pretty top of mind for you.

Whether those are specific to your life or to your business, it’s no secret that the habits we implement and the actions we take today will have a direct effect on what we achieve this year. 

In fact, James Clear says that, “your life today is essentially the sum of your habits. What we repeatedly do, each and every day, ultimately forms the results we enjoy and the goals we achieve. Change your habits, change your systems and you’ll transform your life, team and organization.”

Although it seems simple and obvious, it’s so powerful, yet it’s also the thing that so many people overlook. 

I don’t know what your personal or business goals are this year, but I do know that you probably want to grow in some way.

Maybe you want to grow your team. Or maybe your focus is on your revenue. Or maybe you simply want to grow in your personal life.

Whatever it may be for you, I have one business habit that I personally implement almost daily that you could steal in order to skyrocket your business growth in 2023.

The best part? It doesn’t require you to cut anything out or overhaul your life AND it only takes 10-15 minutes each day. 👀

Talk about leveraging your time!

You probably already know that this habit has something to do with LinkedIn… I can’t help myself. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Here’s the habit: spend 10 minutes of posting and engaging on LinkedIn daily. 

Now, I know what you might be thinking… “Linds, I already have to do that on Instagram [or insert other platform] each day. I can’t possibly add another platform to my list.”

And I hear you! I also want to make sure I’m spending my time as a business owner wisely. 

That’s the very reason that LinkedIn could be more valuable for you! Here’s why:

  1. LinkedIn is 277% more effective at generating leads than Facebook and Twitter.
  2. LinkedIn is home to the highest paid web audience that you have access to for free!
  3. LinkedIn users have a more business and professional focused mindset. 
  4. You can have zero followers or connections and STILL receive engagement.
  5. LinkedIn is the world’s largest business search engine.

I go into further detail about each of those in this blog post, but for now I want to focus on the 10 minute habit that could truly skyrocket your business this year.

Too often as business owners, when we think about starting something new or growing our business in any capacity, I think we let ourselves easily believe that in order to see a result we have to grind really hard to the point where we’re burnt out OR we have to completely overhaul how we currently do things in order to make a new thing work. 

Actually, I think we probably hold that belief for life things too. 

For example, let’s say your goal this year is to eat more whole foods at each meal. In order to get there, you might feel like you have to completely overhaul your pantry and fridge and throw out anything that doesn’t go with your meal plan.

You might start restricting foods and placing hard rules on yourself which will probably lead to lots of irritation and might even make you stop your plan altogether. 

This scenario sounds all too common and shows up in business, too. 

You commit to trying something new, you make yourself go from 0-100 immediately and the next thing you know you’re back to square one. 

What we often forget is that starting small is OKAY! The key is that you simply start. Going back to James Clear, he always says that the 1% is what matters most.

“If you get one percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up 37 times better by the time you’re done.”

So, if you view it as showing up on LinkedIn 1% more than you did yesterday, it will eventually become something that’s a part of your daily routine and marketing strategy that you don’t even have to think twice about… kind of like Instagram for a lot of us. 

The reason I say that you can spend only 10 minutes on LinkedIn and experience some serious momentum is because you likely already have everything you need to get started.

One of the main reasons that people tell me they haven’t started using the platform is because they don’t know what to post. And I get this - a new platform might feel like it equals new content. 

But here’s the permission you probably didn’t even know you needed, friend ⬇️

If you have a blog in your business, you can repurpose that content as a LinkedIn article. 

If you create tweet graphics for Instagram posts, you can use those on LinkedIn.

If you have a YouTube channel, you can post those same videos to LinkedIn.

If you write email newsletters, you can repurpose that content and use it as a LinkedIn post.

You likely already have the content created elsewhere, so to get started with applying it on LinkedIn, follow these steps: (this is the heavy lifting piece of the puzzle that will help you create that 10 minute habit)

  1. Audit your most used social platforms or your website and gather 10-20 pieces of your best content
  2. List those pieces of content in a Google Doc or spreadsheet and add a date next to the content - this is essentially becoming your LinkedIn content calendar
  3. Once you have a solid list, START POSTING 

When I say it’s that simple, I really do mean it!

If you have trouble remembering to actually use the platform each day, try to create a trigger for it. This is another James Clear tip and essentially you train your brain to do something automatically based on 1 of 5 cues: time, location, preceding event, emotional state, or other people. 

You’re basically creating a “when I do ____, I will then do ____” scenario to remind your brain to do the action you want to take.

For showing up on LinkedIn for 10 minutes each day, you could create a trigger that says, “as I drink my coffee each morning, I will set a 10 minute timer, pull up LinkedIn, post my content for the day and engage on the platform.”

The coffee triggers the timer which triggers you to pull up LinkedIn to post and engage.

This will of course look different for everyone and you want to do what makes the most sense for you, but the idea is that you’re training your brain for this to be a true habit that you eventually do on autopilot.

Overall, experiencing growth in your business or creating real momentum with LinkedIn this year doesn’t have to involve completely restructuring everything that you’re already doing. 

It can truly fit into your existing day-to-day actions and help you have a more omnipresent brand that people begin to recognize across various platforms!
